DNA sampling and transport
With a view to constant improvement, Laboratorio Sanitario San Carlo in Caserta has developed an exclusive and sophisticated DNA sampling and transport system using the Transport Medium.
This is a DNA transport medium particularly suitable for certain specific kinds of swabs, such as cervical, vaginal, urethral or conjunctival swabs, which allows the following microorganisms to be detected with Real Time PCR:
- HPV (with genotyping);
- Chlamydia trachomatis;
- Mycoplasma hominis and genitalis;
- Ureaplasma spp;
- Gardnerella vaginalis;
- Trichomonas vaginalis;
- Candida;
- Neisseria gonorrhoeae;
- Herpes I and II;
- Treponema pallidum;
- Cytomegalovirus;
- Lactobacillus.
DNA Transport Medium
The DNA Transport Medium exclusively for Caserta-based Laboratorio Sanitario San Carlo is a physiological solution with added bovine serum and preservative, which inhibits the growth of foreign microflora, prevents cell lysis and improves DNA uptake. It is supplied in 1 ml screw-capped tubes.
How to perform the swab
Laboratorio Sanitario San Carlo in Caserta performs the following swabs for insertion into the DNA Transport Medium:
- urethral swab: insert swab into urethra, rotate for at least 30 seconds;
- cervical swab: insert swab into cervix, rotate for at least 30 seconds;
- conjunctival swab: swab trying to collect as many cells as possible, break it into the tube with the transport medium by the break point, insert, mix thoroughly in the transport medium and close with the screw cap.
